If your day involved isolating faults, checking links and restoring connectivity, start here. Network support teams need people who can work through a problem, document the fix and explain what happened to the next shift. Managed service providers, schools and enterprise support teams are possible settings. Show the network tools you used, issues resolved and approved service scope. Entry requirements vary; an MOS alone is not proof of commercial platform proficiency. This national occupation range is not a starting-salary promise.
Network changes and nodal configuration support this path when you can demonstrate your actual responsibilities. Civilian employers need evidence of routing, switching, troubleshooting and controlled maintenance, not just an equipment list. Hospitals, campuses and managed service firms use these skills. Degree or vendor-certification requirements depend on the employer. If your background is mostly transmission equipment, build a commercial networking lab before claiming server administration. Describe systems maintained and changes completed without exposing operational configurations, and separate your own access from the team's wider responsibilities.

Computer Network Architect: Advancement Path

Treat network architecture as a later target unless you already designed networks and can defend those decisions. Senior 25H experience in alternate routing, capacity planning and network reconfiguration may provide part of that evidence. It does not establish enterprise design competence on its own. Integrators and large organizations usually expect substantial related experience and often a relevant degree. Build an unclassified design portfolio explaining requirements, tradeoffs and validation. Document designs you owned separately from approved changes you implemented under someone else's direction.

Information Security Analyst: Additional-Skills Path

Handling secure communications equipment does not establish cyber-incident investigation skills. This path needs additional evidence: reviewing logs, identifying vulnerabilities, applying defensive controls or completing relevant practical training. Security operations teams and regulated employers will assess those skills directly. Document only security work you actually performed and use an isolated lab to fill gaps. Explain the difference between equipment handling, network defense and incident response in your application. A clearance neither proves analyst proficiency nor guarantees access to a civilian position, and this experienced-occupation range is not entry pay.

Transferable Strengths From 25H Work

Tracing the fault across the link
A connection failure may start in the cable, transmission equipment or network configuration. Explaining how you isolated that fault demonstrates useful diagnostic reasoning. Describe your test sequence, escalation decision and restoration result using an approved example, rather than listing every system your unit owned.

Keeping a usable shift record
Node statistics and shift reporting become service continuity evidence when another technician can act on them. Show how you documented the symptom, test result, action and remaining risk. Civilian managers need to understand what information you handed over, not the military format of the report.

Connecting physical and logical networks
Hands-on cabling plus IP-based nodal work can distinguish your experience from someone who only configured software. Be precise about the layers you worked on. Separate fiber preparation, testing and equipment maintenance from routing changes, and name only commercial tools or approved descriptions you can discuss publicly.

Restoring service under constraints
Senior 25H duties include restoration and alternate routing. If you performed them, explain the constraint, the approved change and how you confirmed service returned. Safe, supportable examples matter more than dramatic mission language. Do not publish locations, configurations, vulnerabilities or protected readiness details to prove the point.

Training team members can translate into technical onboarding, documentation and quality control. Name the procedure taught, how you checked understanding and the scope you were responsible for. Do not turn every informal coaching moment into a management claim; match the language to the responsibility you actually held.

Calling every networking job an engineer role
A field technician, network support specialist, administrator and architect do different work. Applying to all four with the same resume hides your strongest evidence. Start with a lane that matches your actual duties, then identify the additional platform knowledge or design experience needed for the next level. A higher-paying title is a target to validate, not an automatic translation.

Buying overlapping certifications before choosing a lane
Experienced network technicians may not need an entry-level exam before CCNA. Someone whose strength is fiber installation may get more value from verified hands-on fiber training. Read several target postings first, compare their requirements with your evidence, and pay for the gap that repeatedly appears. No certificate guarantees a job or salary increase, and more credentials are not automatically better.

Publishing sensitive detail to make a stronger resume
Do not publish network addresses, encryption details or protected readiness data. Use approved workload counts and descriptions of troubleshooting methods instead. Ask the appropriate security contact when unsure what can be shared, including operational diagrams. On a resume or application, distinguish past clearance eligibility from current verified status; do not assume an old assignment proves access today.

Network support, network administration and telecommunications technician roles are practical starting points, depending on whether you performed troubleshooting, configuration or physical installation. Network architecture and security analysis need additional evidence. Choose a role from the work you can demonstrate, not just the highest salary band or the MOS title.
Did 25H replace 25N, 25Q and 25W?
Yes. The Army's Signal convergence article describes those specialties and the wide-area cabling portion of 25L combining into 25H in October 2022. Local-area cabling from 25L moved into 25B. Your older code still describes real experience; use the current guide that matches your actual duties without changing the historical code on your records.
Does 25H guarantee a six-figure civilian salary?
No. These are national occupation benchmarks spanning experience levels and markets, not predictions for an individual veteran. Design and security roles have different entry requirements from support work. Compare local postings, the platforms you know, education requirements and your documented responsibility before using any range as a salary target.
Should a 25H earn CCNA or a fiber credential first?
Choose the credential that matches your intended work. CCNA is relevant to routing and network administration; a fiber credential may fit installation and testing roles better. CCST is an optional foundation when needed, not a required step before CCNA. Review current employer requirements and issuer terms before paying for preparation or an exam.
